About this tool
Encode text to Base64 (accents and emoji included thanks to UTF-8) or decode a Base64 string received from an API, an email or a configuration file. Also convert a file (image, font, PDF) into a Data URI ready to paste into HTML or CSS. The URL-safe variant and wrapping into 76-character lines are supported.

No. It is a reversible encoding that represents bytes as text, not encryption: anyone can decode it. To protect a document, use a password or an encryption tool.
It replaces "+" and "/" with "-" and "_" (and often omits the trailing "=") so it can be used in a URL or a file name. The tool decodes both variants.
