Convert a Word document to PDF without software or upload

You need to send a document as a PDF, but Word is not installed on this computer, or you do not want to upload a contract to an unknown online converter. Here is how to convert locally, and how to judge whether the result fits your needs.

When local conversion is enough

A letter, minutes, a simple CV, a dissertation: as soon as the document is made of headings, paragraphs, lists, simple tables and images, converting in the browser gives a clean PDF readable everywhere. The structure is kept; the layout is regularised (one column, standard fonts).

If the document relies on a precise layout (multiple columns, text boxes, elaborate headers, brand fonts), prefer “Save as PDF” in Word or LibreOffice: those programs reproduce the page pixel for pixel, which local conversion does not promise.

Convert in the browser

With the Convert Word to PDF tool:

  • Drop the .docx file (old .doc files must first be saved as .docx).
  • Choose the font, size, page format, margins and page numbering.
  • Create the PDF, read the warnings shown (ignored elements, replaced characters) and download.

What to check

Open the PDF and browse it: tables have equal-width columns, EMF/WMF images are missing, headers, footers and footnotes are not reproduced. The tool's warnings list exactly what was simplified: nothing is dropped silently.

The file never leaves your device: reading the .docx (mammoth) and generating the PDF (pdf-lib) both happen in the browser. You can save the tool to use it offline.

Take action

Turn a Word document (.docx) into a PDF that opens anywhere: headings, paragraphs, lists, tables and images, without uploading the file.
